Interview with Lakeysha-Marie Green, author of The Seeds of Beauty: Defining Your Beauty From the Inside Out

theseedsofbeauty-coverABOUT THE SEEDS OF BEAUTY

What’s the real secret to radiant beauty? It may come as no surprise that how we look on the outside is directly connected to the beauty deep inside us. What’s more, when we are burdened with the weight of low self-esteem, it’s all-too-visible in our physical appearance. That’s why a truly successful makeover begins by reconnecting with who we are at our very core—long before the swipe of the credit card or snip of the shears.
Now, fashion stylist Lakeysha-Marie Green has written a groundbreaking new guide to developing show-stopping beauty from the inside out. Inspirational and easy to use, The Seeds of Beauty seamlessly joins the key elements of inner beauty with savvy, expert style advice on making the most of your own physical attributes. Addressing both of these all-important parts of true beauty, this gorgeous resource comes together in one illuminating journey that looks as fabulous as it feels. In Part One, “Beauty Within,” you’ll learn to build a foundation of self-love, exploring subjects such as acknowledging your value, developing resilience and finding the courage to move forward. Part Two, “Beauty Reflected,” offers you practical advice on wardrobe fundamentals to bring out your beauty and create a winning style, such as working with your body type, selecting your best colors, choosing a swimsuit, and even building a shoe wardrobe. Unlike other fashion and beauty makeover books on the market, The Seeds of Beauty challenges you to discover just why you are uniquely beautiful on the inside. Once you have embraced your own brand of beauty, you’ll be truly motivated to master the building blocks to accentuate your appearance—and glow with your own exquisite beauty from the inside out. Q: Welcome to The Writer's Life.  Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how long you’ve been writing?

A: I am an indie author and fashion stylist who is unapologetically in love with beauty and style. When I was little, I loved to watch my mom while she curled her hair or painted her nails. It always came out so pretty, but I was such a tomboy and style was not something that came naturally to me.  Every time I tried to paint my nails I always ended up with lumpy bubbles in the polish! Uggh…

While I do have formal training, a lot of what I know about fashion & beauty came from trial and error trying to figure out what to do with my own body. I completely get why women hate shopping and I also understand how you can still feel like crap no matter perfectly put together your look. It’s something I’ve experienced and a driving factor behind my writing. I have always enjoyed writing throughout my life but have begun to do so more seriously within the last five years.

Q: Can you please tell us about your book and why you wrote it?

A: The Seeds of Beauty: Defining Your Beauty and Style from the Inside Out connects the elements of inner beauty with expert style advice on building a winning wardrobe. Part one is an intimate journey that takes you through the steps of building confidence, self-esteem and fostering a deep sense of appreciation from within. As you begin to strengthen and discover who you are as a woman, part two reveals how to take these new aspects of your personality and incorporate them into a stunning wardrobe that flatters your body type.

As a fashion stylist I strongly believe that timeless beauty begins from within, and that each makeover starts with reconnecting with who you are at your core. This is my reason for writing The Seeds of Beauty.

Q: What were some of the biggest challenges you faced writing it?

A: One of the biggest challenges I faced while writing the book was keeping a sharp focus. I have a tendency to start with one idea and end up with something completely different. In this instance my outlines were really useful in helping me to stay on track.

Q: Do you have an agent and, if so, would you mind sharing who he/is is?  If not, have you ever had an agent or do you even feel it’s necessary to have one?

A: I do not have a literary agent however I do believe there are definitely benefits to having one. It really comes down to your goals as an author as well as the route you wish to take with respect to publishing.

Q: Did you, your agent or publisher prepare a media blitz before the book came out and would you like to tell us about it?

A: Prior to the book being released I utilized social media heavily as well as cued it up with a pre-blog tour blast. It was a great way to help launch the book and jump start book sales.

Q: Do you plan subsequent books?

A: Yes, I do. I really enjoy writing on the topics of fashion and self-esteem. I have several ideas that I look forward to developing into subsequent books to keep fashion novices and maven alike inspired.

Q: Thank you for your interview, Lakeysha-Marie. Would you like to tell my readers where they can find you on the web and how everyone can buy your book?

A: Yes, my author blog can be found at http://www.theseedsofbeauty.com or follow me on Twitter @beautybodystyle. The book can be purchased online at Amazon.com or locally at Tattered Cover Bookstores.
