Interview with Austin Dragon, author of Rising Leviathan
ABOUT RISING LEVIATHAN
Title: Rising LeviathanGenre: Science Fiction
Author: Austin Dragon
Rising Leviathan is the latest sci-fi thriller in the After Eden series—a dramatic mix of politics, religion, and intrigue. The saga continues in the Russian Bloc (Yes, Russia “owns” Eastern Europe too) in the year 2096 with the inexplicable death of the Russian president. Or was it murder? As one leader falls, a deadly power rises. Will there be war or more than one? The march to the explosion of World War III continues— the first global war of the tek age, a hell we have never seen before.
Q: Welcome to The Writer's Life, Austin. Can
you tell us a little bit about yourself and how long you’ve been writing?
A: I’m a native
New Yorker and after three years in the military (Upstate New York), living one
year abroad in Paris, France, I moved to Los Angeles where I’ve lived for over
twenty years. I wrote my first book at three years old. By middle school, I was
writing full detective stories. Then “life” happened with my twenty-year career
in corporate recruiting. I hadn’t written anything in almost fifteen years.
Something about my current series made me pick up the writing pen again in 2011
and it’s been non-stop ever since.
Q: Can you please tell us about your book and why
you wrote it?
A: Rising Leviathan is my latest science
fiction and international thriller in the After Eden series. The saga continues
in the year 2096 with the inexplicable death of the Russian president. Or was
it murder? As one leader falls, a deadly power rises. Will there be war or more
than one? The march to the explosion of World War III continues— the first
global war of the Tek Age, a hell we have never seen before.
Q: What were some of the biggest challenges you
faced writing it?
A: None
really, because this is the third in the series and I have the entire seven
book collection mapped out in my mind. Even the research about Russia and the
surrounding area wasn’t a chore. I love history. The hardest part was just
starting the series back in 2011 with a mountain of information, research and
characters to compile, sort through, and organize.
Q: Do you have a press kit and what do you include
in it? Does this press kit appear online
and, if so, can you provide a link to where we can see it?
A: Yes, I
do. It includes my bio, pictures, all the book specs and details, press
releases, sample interview questions and contact info. It is on-line here: http://www.afteredenbooks.com/press
Q: Have you either spoken to groups of people about
your book or appeared on radio or TV?
What are your upcoming plans for doing so?
A: I
haven’t officially begun my speaking tour yet about the book, but I have
appeared on radio. We are doing a crowd-funding campaign for the series. After
that, I will be doing a lot more media on a consistent basis and plan to hire a
publicist.
Q: Do you have an agent and, if so, would you mind
sharing who he/is is? If not, have you ever had an agent or do you even
feel it’s necessary to have one?
A: I don’t
have an agent as I’m a self-published author. If you want to become a
traditionally published author, it is a must. I only plan to get one when I’ve
gotten to the point where I need to negotiate movie or television rights. With
Big Publishing in such a state of flux, I believe I can start a successful
small press publishing company on my own. I’m driven, knowledgeable, and more
importantly, I can write three books a year. Why not keep my book rights and
see what I can do on my own?
Q: Did you, your agent or publisher prepare a media
blitz before the book came out and would you like to tell us about it?
A: I did
this own my own. Not at the level I would have wanted, but that is because of
my big crowd-funding campaign that is about to launch June 6th. All
of these things are time-intensive, which is why I plan to hire a publicist to
my team.
Q: Do you plan subsequent books?
A: Yes! I have
already completed a companion novella to my After Eden Series and I will write
three more. The After Eden series has four more books planned and Halloween I
will publish my first horror novel. Next year, I will also release a mystery
thriller series.
Q: Thank you for your interview, Austin. Would you like to tell my readers where they
can find you on the web and how everyone can buy your book?
A: Yes,
they can learn more and connect with me at www.afteredenbooks.com Also, they can buy my books on Amazon, Barnes
& Noble, or any online book retailer.
