I AM NORMAL TO THE NAKED EYE, BUT…

By C. Elizabeth

…to spend a day in my mind is to twist reality and a word of warning; no one views the world in quite the same way as an author.

To watch me go about my daily life you see nothing extraordinary, a simple woman, doing her errands, going to work, having a cup of coffee.  However, it is what lies underneath that is of interest.

I am always on the prowl while presenting in the real world, keeping a watchful eye on the people who surround me, their words or expressions are what keep me intrigued.  Why you ask?  That is my inspiration, yet it goes far beyond that; it extends into something more substantial, it will create a fantasy for the readers to delve into.

For example, when you look at a person who is smiling, you see the face as a whole, what I see is something entirely different.  Does the smile touch their eyes? Are their eyes almond shaped or squinted?  Does the smile twitch or curve up on their face?  Do their cheeks raise high enough to touch the bottom of their eyelashes?  Does a grunt accompany it or a slight giggle? Do their shoulders slouch forward or are they rigid?  These are small things that go unnoticed to most, but they are what come to play in my mind as every single one will someday, somehow and someway form a person, a hero, or heroine in one of my novels.

Ideas come from everywhere, but it is usually the simplest things the author takes and brings to life.  All characters, in every book, have been based on real people albeit; it could be ten or one hundred – be assured they have all been built piece by piece, developed so as to unfold a story to take you on a journey.

C. Elizabeth lives in St. Albert,  Alberta, Canada and during her short writing career she’s learned a lot about herself, sometimes to the point that she wonders how the heck she got this far in life and know so little about herself.

For the majority of her life she dabbled in many things, such as drawing, photography, sewing, only to find that after a while, she would lose interest, but writing is a different story — it found her and continues to be an addiction, as well as a most wonderful, incredible passion.

Not only does she write novels, but she does whatever she can to hone her craft.  Such as attending the New York Pitch Conference, seminars and the like, as well, she writes for online magazines on the topic of… you guessed it, writing.

Her latest book is the romantic suspense, Absolute Obstruction.

  2. You're right about appearing normal to the naked eye. But if people could see what was going on in a writer's mind...yikes! I often wonder if people know that I'm actually gathering material for future characters when I'm looking at them.
