Quick Tip for Authors: How to Change Your Twitter URL Address #twitter #socialmedia #authortips

Are you an author and hate the Twitter address you signed up with? But don't know how to change it? As an author myself, I know how annoying it can be when Twitter assigns you a url when you sign up. This happens when you put in your name and it's already taken, so Twitter gives you suggestions and many of them have numbers after it.  Take for example, @JaneSmith087432. How are you going to remember that? How is anyone else going to remember it?

There is hope for all of us! 

All you have to do is go to www.twitter.com and click on "settings" which is in the top right hand side of your screen. Click on "account" which is in the top left. In the part that says "username," enter your new username eliminating any numbers that may have been added the first go around. If you're setting it up for an author's twitter account, a lot of authors choose their pen name as in http://www.twitter.com/JaneDoe. Now, if Jane Doe is taken, then maybe add something like JaneDoeBooks or JaneDoeAuthor. Just anything besides numbers which are hard for us to remember.

And, you could also set up another account for your book if you desire. For example: http://www.twitter.com/OurLastHurrah. More than likely that url won't be take but if so, try www.twitter.com/OurLastHurrahBook. 

Once you have that picked out and have found a name that is available to your liking, there will be a box below your email address which will open up asking for your password. Enter your password there in order to be able to change your Url/Name. Click save at the bottom of the page and voila your URL should have changed.
