A Day in the Life of Historical Fiction/Paranormal/Suspense Author Andra Watkins

A Day in the Life is The Writer’s Life newest feature. Here we get a glimpse into our favorite author’s day-to-day life! Today’s guest is Andra Watkins, author of the suspense novel with a paranormal/historical edge, To Live Forever: An Afterlife Journey of Meriwether Lewis.

When you read these words, I will be walking.

From March 1 to April 3, 2014, walking will be my life. I am the first person of either sex to walk the Natchez Trace as the pioneers did since the rise of steam power in the 1820s. I am walking 15 miles a day. Six days a week. One rest day per week. I will finish in 34 days.

Pioneers walked the Trace in as little as 21 days. That’s over 20 miles a day on foot, 7 days a week.

The Natchez Trace is a 10,000-year-old road that stretches from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee. It’s probably one of the oldest things on the North American continent.

A tunnel through time.

Its history inspired my novel. Meriwether Lewis died along the Trace in Tennessee on October 11, 1809. Elvis Presley sprung from its bowels. So did Oprah Winfrey.

For 34 days, I am walking with ghosts and taking readers into the world of my novel. One step at a time.

Join me at andrawatkins.com. Your words of encouragement might be the ones that carry me through another 15-mile day. I hope to see you on the Trace.

  1. I have recently read Andra's book. It is very well written with descriptions that are astounding. I couldn't put it down. The characters are so well written and you feel like you're right there with them, fighting the fight to get Em to her beloved Daddy. So very entertaining. I can hardly wait for the second one...I hope there will be a second one.

  2. Andra weaves a tale that is so compelling I dare you to put the book down once you start reading. Her characters are richly developed, complex and relatable. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book.

Go Andra! 444 miles is incredible!
